Yvette Young

Yvette Young is the cover feature in the latest issue of Total Guitar. She fronts a band named  Covet.

In this lesson she demonstrates how to learn the riffs from her signature tune “Parachute,” by carefully and patiently breaking it down (always a good idea).

Speaking with Amit Sharma of Total Guitar, she talks about her style and how she’s developed it through classical study, interval ear training, experimenting with alternate tunings and mixed meter, and a curiosity for gear and pedals to discover new sounds and how those sounds inspired creativity. She talks about how singing first allows her to translate ideas to the fretboard. And she relates specific advice on how string gauge, fret placement, and action make for effective tapping.

She dazzles on the electric, and charms on acoustic in duet with herself on violin.
